MANILA, Philippines – Pope Francis named the Cardinals he had created to membership in various congregations and councils of the Holy See. Our Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle received appointments to to serve as a member of the Pontifical “Cor Unum”, a body that manages the Church’s worldwide charitable activities.
According to the Vatican website, Cardinal Tagle was appointed in this Vatican post almost two months after he was elected as the president of Caritas Internationalis, which made him the first Asian to head the confederation of global qualities.
Cor Unum was instituted by Pope Paul VI in 1971 and is part of the Vatican curia in charge of the humanitarian initiatives during disasters serving in the name of the Pope..
Aside from extending help during typhoon Haiyan, CBCP said Cor Unum also raised funds to construct the Pope Francis Center in Palo, Leyte.
With Cardinal Tagle’s appointment, he is eyed to extend help not only in the Philippines but also to calamity victims worldwide.
