The 19-year-old Eala earned her spot in the French Open after an impressive run at the Miami Open, which helped her climb into the WTA Top 75. Previously, she narrowly missed the main draw in Roland-Garros qualifiers, making this direct entry a significant achievement in her professional career.
Eala, currently ranked world no. 72, will face some of the top contenders in women’s tennis, including Iga Swiatek, the three-time defending champion and second seed, and Aryna Sabalenka, the Miami Open winner and top seed. Other seeded players in the tournament include Jessica Pegula (3rd), Coco Gauff (4th), Madison Keys (5th), and Paula Badosa, who recovered from an injury that forced her to withdraw from the Miami Open.
Her doubles partner, Katie Volynets, will also compete in the main draw of the women’s doubles tournament. Before the French Open, Eala is participating in clay-court tournaments, including the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal, where she recently advanced to the Round of 16 in doubles.
Reflecting on her journey, Eala said:
“Every Grand Slam appearance has been a dream come true. I’m ready to give my best at Roland-Garros and continue representing the Philippines on the world stage.”
This French Open entry solidifies Eala’s status as one of the most promising young stars in tennis. Her 2025 season has already been historic, as she became the first Filipino in the professional era to compete in the main draws of Wimbledon and the US Open, winning her first Grand Slam match at the US Open.
Fans of Filipino tennis are encouraged to follow Eala’s progress at Roland-Garros as she aims to inspire the next generation of athletes and continue breaking barriers on the international stage.
