VivaFilipinas23102024_1In a remarkable display of faith and solidarity, Catholic churches across the Bicol Region have opened their doors wide to provide refuge for evacuees devastated by the relentless onslaught of Typhoon Kristine. Following the urgent directive from the Archdiocese of Cáceres, churches and pastoral halls have transformed into vital evacuation centers, offering a safe haven for families seeking shelter from the storm’s fury.

Church leaders emphasized the need for community support, urging parishes near designated evacuation zones to open their parish and public restrooms for evacuees. “For those parishes near the designated evacuation centers, kindly offer your parish/public restrooms for the use of our brothers and sisters in the evacuation centers,” a spokesperson stated, reinforcing the message of compassion and cooperation.

This unprecedented move has not only provided immediate assistance but has also highlighted the critical role of the Church in disaster response. Local parishes are collaborating closely with government agencies and disaster management offices, ensuring that safety measures and support systems are in place for those affected by the calamity.
