Based on the latest data released by the DOH, since Jan. 1 to July 22, 2023, the number of deaths due to the said disease reached 233, which is higher compared to the recorded 201 death toll in the year 2022.
During the said period, the department also reported that the number of cases of this disease increased by 52% from the 1,423 cases recorded during the same period last year.
In this regard, it also increased to 1.97% per 100,000 population recorded this year from the previous 1.29% number last year.
Meanwhile, from the 2,168 cases of leptospirosis in the country, Central Luzon recorded the largest number of cases at 328; Cagayan Valley 283; National Capital Region 248; Davao Region 205; Central Visayas 157; Bicol Region 123; Calabarzon 120; while 115 each in Zamboanga Peninsula and Caraga region; Central Luzon 89; North Mindanao 84; Mimaropa 77; Cordillera Administrative Region 74; Eastern Visayas 60; 32 in Soccsksargen, 32; and four from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
