Pope Francis is in South Sudan to fulfill his long-standing promise to visit the said country.

This is the first time the Pope has visited South Sudan as part of his six-day visit to South Africans.

Accompanying it on the trip are Archbishop Justin Welby who heads the Angelican Communion and Retired Rev. Iain Greenshields is the moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

South Sudan is one of the countries that is experiencing the largest refugee crisis in the world based on a study by the United Nation Refugee Agency.

South Sudan gained its independence from Muslim-majority Sudan in 2011 after decades of unrest that led to civil war.

In his speech before the people of South Sudan, the Pope called on the leaders of the aforementioned country to stop the violence.
