Spread the love

vivafilipinas17042025_1MANILA, Philippines — The nation grieves the loss of a true legend. Nora Aunor, the beloved Superstar of Philippine cinema and a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 71.

Her son, actor Ian de Leon, confirmed her passing through an emotional Facebook post.

“She was the heart of our family—a source of unconditional love, strength, and warmth,” Ian wrote. “Her kindness, wisdom, and beautiful spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be missed beyond words and remembered forever.”

In a separate post, Ian expressed his heartbreak:
“We love you Ma.. alam ng Diyos kung gano ka namin ka mahal.. pahinga ka na po Ma.. nandito ka lang sa puso at isipan namin.”

Nora’s daughter, Matet de Leon, also shared her grief on Instagram, posting photos of her mother from her wedding with the simple but powerful caption: “I love you mommy.”

Nora Aunor, born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, became an icon of Philippine entertainment through her powerhouse performances, emotive voice, and unmatched charisma. She rose from humble beginnings to earn the title of Superstar, redefining stardom and excellence in local showbiz.

She was named National Artist in 2022, a historic recognition that honored her decades of contribution to film, television, and music.

Nora’s most iconic roles include her unforgettable performances in Himala, Bona, and Minsa’y Isang Gamu-gamo—films that showcased her depth as an actress and her ability to reflect the Filipino soul on screen.

Even in her later years, she remained active in the industry. Her final film appearances include Mananambal with Bianca Umali and Pieta with Alfred Vargas. She was also part of GMA’s Lilet Matias: Attorney-at-Law in 2023, reuniting with Jo Berry, her co-star in Onanay (2018).

Beyond acting, Nora was also celebrated for her singing. Her renditions of songs like “Pearly Shells” and “Tiny Bubbles” became timeless classics.

She married actor Christopher de Leon in 1975. Though they separated and had their marriage annulled in 1996, they had five children together: Ian, Lotlot, Matet, Kiko, and Kenneth.

Details regarding funeral arrangements will be announced soon.

The Philippines has lost one of its brightest stars, but her legacy as a Superstar and National Artist will shine forever.

Rest in peace, Ate Guy. Salamat sa lahat.
