Members of the House are set to convene today as the ‘Committee of the Whole.’ The purpose is to discuss the Resolution of Both Houses No. 7, advocating for economic Charter Change or Cha-Cha.
In yesterday’s regular session, the motion to constitute the House as the Committee of the Whole for the proposed amendments to the three economic provisions in the 1987 Constitution was approved.
House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez will serve as the chairman of the Committee of the Whole, with House Majority Leader Manuel Dalipe as the senior vice chairman. House Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. and House Deputy Speaker David Suarez will both act as vice chairmen.
Meanwhile, Mandaluyong Rep. Neptali Gonzales II will serve as the floor leader, with assistant floor leaders Reps. Janette Garin, Lorenz Defensor, and Marlyn Primicias-Agabas.
The Committee of the Whole will commence its work today, February 21, 2024. The session will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon at the House plenary.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr emphasized the need to amend the restrictive economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution. The President wishes for a quiet process led by both chambers, primarily the Senate.
