The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has issued a tsunami warning after a magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit the north island of New Zealand.
According to the US Geological Survey the quake had a depth of 10 kilometers.
The initial strength of the earthquake was magnitude 7.3 until it was lowered to magnitude 6.9.
Such tsunami waves are likely to be felt at 300 kilometers to the epicenter of the earthquake.
