Gilas 3 × 3 started training in the Calamba bubbles

Gilas-3x3-1-e1619953792884The Gilas Pilipinas 3 × 3 team began their training in the Calamba bubble in preparation for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

After their RT-PCR Test, the 6-man national team proceeded to their rehearsal at Inspire Sports Academy.

It will take them eight days in the bubble before leaving for Graz, Austria for the Tokyo Olympic qualifier which will start on May 26 to 30.

The Philippine Basketball Association (SBP) plans to extend the training depending on the changes.

San Miguel Beermen CJ Perez and Mo Tautuaa lead the 3 × 3 squad with Joshua Munzon of Terafirma, Alvin Pasaol of Meralco while Rain or Shine Santi Santillan and Karl Dehesa will be the alternatives.

The Philippines is in bracket C along with France, Slovenia, Qatar and the Dominican Republic.

Gilas 3 × 3 aims to be the first Philippine basketball team in 50 years to qualify for the Olympics.

The last time the Philippine basketball team participated was in the 1972 Olympics held in Munich, Germany where it was led by William ‘Bogs’ Adornado, Jimmy Mariano, Freddie Webb and many others.

This is the first time 3 × 3 basketball has been included in the Olympics and only three of the 20 countries that will participate in the qualifiers will be in the Tokyo Olympics.
