vivafilipinas05172023-42The mandatory wearing of face masks in Metro Manila will not be reinstated for now amid the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the country.

According to Metro Manila Council head San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, the region remains in the low-risk category for COVID-19 with a 29% hospital utilization rate.

While the positivity rate or percentage of those who test positive for the virus from the tested individual is at 25% but most are only mild.

The mayor linked the low positivity rate and hospitalization rates to the highest vaccination rate in the region.

He said that despite the implementation of the face mask mandate in other cities, as a whole Metro Manila remains at Alert level 1 or low risk category and under this, wearing a face mask remains optional.

Zamora also announced that the re-implementation of the mandatory wearing of face masks has not been discussed at the last council meeting.
